Trail du Garlaban 2026: complete FR + EN 41 km guide
The 2026 Grand Trail du Garlaban returns on Sunday 29 March in Roquevaire with a flagship 41 km and 2,700 m of ascent. The route climbs towards Pic du Taoumé, Mont du Marseillais and the Garlaban summit, through garrigue, rocky descents and Marcel Pagnol country.
Race overview
The 41 km Garlaban is short for an ultra, but it delivers a huge mountain effort through its ascent-to-distance ratio and rough footing.
Logistics are local-Provence style: limited parking in Roquevaire, bib pickup in Aubagne the day before and carpooling strongly recommended.

Prepare steep climbs, rocky descents, forest-road accelerations and three-to-five-hour outings on dry terrain.
Work foot placement and quad durability: rocky dry descents punish runners who arrive with road-heavy preparation.
Trail du Garlaban mandatory gear
Check the official list close to race day. For the 41 km, carry a Provence mountain-trail kit suited to wind, sun and technical footing.
- 1 L to 1.5 L water capacity, personal cup and enough food between aid stations.
- Charged phone, whistle, emergency blanket and ID.
- Light windproof or waterproof jacket, buff and thin gloves if mistral or a cold start is forecast.
- Grippy protective shoes for rocky ground, dry trails and fast descents.
- Sunscreen, sunglasses, cap and poles only if practised on technical terrain.
Sun and mistral can coexist in March: do not pack only for the start temperature.
Three coherent gear choices for Garlaban
Garlaban requires underfoot protection, available water and carry that stays stable on rocky descents.

Logistics to solve early
The 41 km start is listed for 7 a.m. from Boulevard Piot, with finish at Salle Raymond Reynaud. Aid points structure the race at Lascours, Col du Garlaban, Col d'Aubignane, Ravito de Vincent and the finish.
The 2026 bib pickup is planned the day before at Decathlon Aubagne. Organise this before reaching lodging, especially if staying in Marseille or Aubagne.
Transport: Marseille-Provence, Aubagne then Roquevaire
The main airport is Marseille-Provence. From the airport or Marseille Saint-Charles, reach Aubagne by train or shuttle, then Roquevaire by bus, taxi or carpool.
By car, anticipate limited parking in Roquevaire and prioritise official or runner carpooling.
Accommodation: Roquevaire, Aubagne or east Marseille
Roquevaire is ideal but has few beds. Aubagne is the best compromise for bib pickup, restaurants and a short morning transfer.
East Marseille or La Penne-sur-Huveaune can work if you have a car and accept a very early start.
