Trail des Balcons du Léman 2026: complete FR + EN guide
This Trail des Balcons du Léman guide uses the Tour du Lac Léman en Trail as reference: a guided 5-day journey listed for 13-17 May 2026. The format totals about 130 km, 5,500 m+ and 8,200 m- on the French and Swiss balconies of Lake Geneva.
Race overview
This is not a classic single-bib, continuous-clock ultra. It is a collective stage challenge around Lake Geneva, with days of about 25 km and views over the Chablais, Vaud Alps, Jura and the French return leg.
The difficulty is the sequence: starting again for five mornings, managing feet, sleeping collectively or independently and staying fresh enough to enjoy the route rather than survive the trip.

Prepare with back-to-back weekends, fast hiking and 20-30 km outings on rolling terrain. The goal is recovering well enough each evening to restart the next morning.
Test pack and shoes over two consecutive days. Blisters, chafing and dehydration are more dangerous here than one very steep climb.
Balcons du Léman mandatory gear
Even with guides, the journey needs a real light-autonomy kit for Lake Geneva weather, transport and shared nights.
- Waterproof or windproof jacket, warm layer, hat or buff and emergency blanket.
- Charged phone, ID, insurance, cash/card and emergency numbers.
- 1.5 L water capacity, cup, emergency food and electrolytes.
- Broken-in shoes, spare socks, blister dressings and anti-chafe cream.
- Small overnight kit for shared lodging: earplugs, dry clothes, chargers and personal medical items.
Confirm the exact organiser list, especially if you choose the no-accommodation package.
Logistics to solve early
The route lists five activity days with guided groups, an average of 25 km per day and up to 1,300 m+ in a day. Shared meals and group time are part of the experience.
Packages may include collective lodging or no lodging. Read exactly what is included before booking transport and nights around the event.
Transport: Geneva, Thonon and Chablais
Geneva is the simplest airport for international travel and an excellent arrival station. Thonon-les-Bains, Évian-les-Bains and Annemasse are useful on the French side depending on the exact meeting point.
Because the journey crosses two countries, prefer train plus organised shuttle or confirmed carpool. Avoid relying on a car left far from the finish without a return plan.
Accommodation: collective package or Lake Geneva bases
The collective package simplifies nights and keeps the group together. Pack deliberately: dry clothes, charging, sleep and recovery.
If you go independent, book early around the Chablais, Geneva or listed stage towns. Lake Geneva hotels become expensive quickly in spring.
